Terms
Last updated 2026-08-12
Kiln Games is free, run by one person, and hosts games made by other people. Using it means agreeing to what is on this page.
Who you are agreeing with
Håkon Lia, a private individual in Norway, who runs kiln-games.com. Reachable at hello@kiln-games.com.
Playing
You do not need an account to play. Games here are made by other users with Kiln Studio and are not reviewed before they go up. They run in your browser in a restricted frame on a separate domain, which stops a game reaching your account or the rest of the site — but it does not make the game good, safe or accurate about what it is. Play at your own judgement, and report anything that should not be here.
Accounts
- You must be at least 13.
- One person, one account. Do not share it, and keep your sign-in to yourself.
- Your handle is yours while you hold it. You can change it once every 30 days, and every handle you release stays reserved to you for as long as the account exists, so old links keep pointing at you rather than at someone new.
- Handles that impersonate someone, or that exist to squat on a name, can be taken back.
Publishing
Uploading is invite-only. You apply, and if you are approved you are granted a number of publishes and an amount of storage. A publish is spent on every upload, preview builds included, and they do not renew — when you run out you ask for more. Nobody is owed an approval, a grant, or a reason.
Games are uploaded from Kiln Studio, land in preview, and go live only when you promote them. An update to a live game lands beside it and swaps in when you say so, so a broken build cannot take down a game people are playing.
What you promise about what you upload
By publishing a game, you are stating that:
- You made it, or you have the right to publish every part of it — art, sound, music, fonts, code and models alike.
- Where an asset's licence asks for attribution, you have put that attribution in the game's credits.
- It does not break the content policy, which is part of these terms.
What stays yours, and what you let this site do
Your game stays yours. Nothing here transfers ownership. You give Kiln Games permission to store it, serve it to players, and show its title, thumbnail, description and author in listings, in search results and in the link previews that appear when somebody shares it — because that is what publishing here is for. The permission lasts as long as the game is up and ends when you take it down, apart from copies sitting in caches and other people's screenshots, which are not recallable.
Comments and ratings
Both need an account. You may rate a game once and change your mind later, but not rate your own. You may edit and delete your own comments. A private profile can rate but not comment, and existing comments move to a stable pseudonym rather than being deleted.
Do not use ratings or comments to run a campaign against a game or a person, and do not attempt to inflate a rating or a play count. Both are grounds for losing the account.
What can be removed, and when
Any game or comment that breaks these terms or the content policy can be unpublished or deleted, and any account that keeps doing it can be closed. Something clearly illegal or dangerous goes immediately and the explanation follows. Anything else gets told to you at the address on the account.
If you think a removal was wrong, reply to abuse@kiln-games.com and a person will look at it again.
Deleting things
Deleting a game is permanent. The game, its files, its ratings and its comments all go, and every link anyone shared to it stops working. Deleting your account does the same to everything on it. Neither is recoverable, so there is no support request that can undo it.
What this site does not promise
Kiln Games is provided as it is, for free, with no guarantee that it will be available, that your games will stay uploaded, or that anything here works for any particular purpose. It may change or shut down. Keep your own copy of anything you care about — Kiln Studio has the project on your machine, and this site is not a backup of it.
As far as the law allows, Håkon Lia is not liable for losses arising from using the site, from a game somebody else published, or from data being lost. None of this removes rights you have as a consumer under Norwegian law, which stand whatever this page says.
Kiln Studio
The desktop app is a separate program with its own licence, and it drives an AI coding assistant that you install and pay for yourself. What that assistant costs you, and what it does on your machine, is between you and whoever provides it.
Law
Norwegian law applies, and Norwegian courts have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer somewhere else in the EEA, the mandatory protections of your own country still apply to you.
Changes
These terms can change. The date at the top says when they last did, and anyone with an account is told by email before a substantive change takes effect. Carrying on using the site after that is how you accept it.
